Ariana Grande plans to step back from public-facing work after completing her Eternal Sunshine Tour, according to a statement from her representative reported Sunday and confirmed by multiple news organizations.
The decision also means Grande will no longer appear in the planned 2027 London revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. She had been set to star opposite her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey at the Barbican Centre.
The Barbican confirmed Grande’s departure on its official production page, saying the show will still open in summer 2027 and that replacement casting will be announced later. The organization expressed support for her decision.
A break after the Eternal Sunshine Tour
Grande’s representative said the singer wants to finish the tour on a positive note before taking a deserved break from appearances and other highly visible work. The statement cited the continuing level of public scrutiny surrounding her.
The Eternal Sunshine Tour is scheduled to end September 1 at London’s O2 Arena. Before the London run, Grande has remaining performances in Chicago.
The announcement comes only days after the July 31 release of Grande’s eighth studio album, Petal, and the official music video for its title track.
Grande’s pause should not be read as a retirement announcement. Her representative described it as a step back from visibility after the tour rather than an end to her recording career.
The singer has spent much of the past several years moving between major music, film and theater projects. Along with her pop career, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance as Glinda in Wicked and was preparing for a major London stage role.
For the Barbican production, the immediate practical effect is a recasting process. The theater says the revival remains scheduled to move forward in summer 2027.
